About the Role

The Salk Institute is seeking a highly skilled Grants Administrator III to join our team. As a key member of our grants administration department, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of a portfolio of complex grant, contract, sub-award, and fellowship applications and awards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Grant Management: Manage all aspects of a portfolio of complex grant, contract, sub-award, and fellowship applications and awards, including pre-award, submission, and post-award compliance and reporting.
  • Proposal Development: Collaborate with faculty and staff on the preparation of administrative portions of progress reports and other administrative requests.
  • Financial Management: Work with Research Accounting for post-award financial management and collaborate with various administrative departments and committees to ensure proper stewardship of grant funds.
  • Funding Agency Research Proposals: Coordinate and prepare funding agency research proposals, serving in a key role with department members, faculty, and staff in assessing application objectives and planning.
  • Grant Administration: Prepare and submit grants, contract, sub-award, and fellowship applications and awards, and steward the administrative proposal process.
  • Compliance and Policy: Under the supervision of the Director of Grants Administration, lead departmental and Institute-wide policies and procedures to maintain compliance with funding agency regulations.
  • Mentorship and Training: Mentor other Grants Administrators and provide secondary review of proposals and other actions under the supervision of the Director of Grants Administration.
  • Customer Service: Project a strong service support role in meeting internal and external customer needs, effectively communicating orally, in writing, and electronically.
  • Staying Current: Stay abreast of potential sources of funding, deadlines, and application guidelines to ensure institutional compliance.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum five years non-profit grants management experience in proposal development, grant financial management, or grant-related process improvement, or an equivalent combination of post-bachelor's education and experience.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business or a related field or an equivalent number of years of experience.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge and experience with grant and contract policies, program reviewer guidelines, and extramural funding requirements, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret which policies and procedures apply to a given situation.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe, FileMaker Pro, and email programs, as well as familiarity with online proposal submission systems.
