Job Description Summary
The Financial Planning Analyst for the Office of the Provost spearheads initiatives to align the University's financial resources with its mission and strategic objectives, collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve these goals. The Analyst promotes a culture where financial data is accessible and utilized effectively and transparently to support decision-making, resource distribution, and strategic planning. With direct accountability for the institution's forecasting and budget formulation, the Analyst collaborates closely with the Provost, Budget and Finance, Enrollment Management, university leaders, and academic deans to create realistic and growth-oriented financial models for the University and its various divisions. The Analyst partners with academic deans to establish effective financial models and align resource distribution for the University's decentralized campus structure. Additionally, the Analyst oversees the operations of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, working with the Provost Team, deans, and the AVP of Research and Sponsored Programs to foster a culture of grant-seeking and leverage funding to support the Strategic Plan and departmental priorities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 years of experience in higher education
  • 1 year of administrative support experience for a senior administrator
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion, maintain confidentiality, and interact diplomatically with a diverse range of individuals
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks; demonstrate flexibility to meet both planned and unplanned deadlines
  • Ability to support and empathize with historically underrepresented populations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in business, marketing, and event planning
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Finance preferred
  • MBA or graduate degree or certificate highly preferred

Specific Duties

Budget and Planning:
Coordinates the development of the University's budget, including revenue and expense estimations. Ensures alignment of the budget and planning processes with the University's mission, strategic initiatives, and academic objectives. Forecasts and models budgetary processes to anticipate the outcomes of various university decisions, including enrollment strategies, staffing allocations, and departmental strategic plans. Authorizes significant expenditures and financial commitments within the Division of Academic Affairs, including staffing, purchase requisitions, budget transfers, etc. Acts as the Provost's representative regarding specific budgetary, financial, and policy matters, including drafting policies, implementing practices, overseeing budget reallocations, and approving expense reports. Utilizes the University's data warehousing and reporting capabilities to prepare financial reports as requested by University administrators or the Board of Trustees. Collaborates with deans to maximize enrollment and net tuition generation across the University's divisions.

Strategic Analysis and Planning:
Supports the University's strategic planning process, develops tracking mechanisms to assess financial goals, and ensures regular reporting on progress toward achieving institutional strategic objectives. Monitors the financial performance of all colleges and university divisions, reviews budgetary implications of new initiatives, and makes recommendations to the Provost and other university leaders as appropriate. Conducts analytic reviews of the university's colleges and new strategic programs and initiatives under consideration. Provides strategic analysis as requested by deans and other university stakeholders.

Contracts and Grants:
Collaborates with the Provost team, deans, and others to develop a university-wide culture of grant-seeking. Works with the AVP of Research and Sponsored Programs to oversee pre- and post-award functions for government-funded grants. Reviews and approves federal grants and contracts. Ensures university compliance with federal, state, and local funding agency requirements. Represents the University to the Office of Research Integrity at the Department of Health and Human Services.
