Description

NOTE: This is a temporary assignment, not to exceed 960 hours. GENERAL PURPOSE Under general supervision, the Community Resource Specialist assists the following departments and/ or department divisions in performing a variety of support functions and related duties: City Manager’s Office; City Clerk’s Office; Department of Administrative Services; Department of Development Services; Department of Community Services; or any other associated City departments or entities.  CLASS CHARACTERISTICS The Community Resource Specialist performs a range of duties that are based on the department and/or division to which they are assigned. This position is distinguished from the Office Specialist, Maintenance Assistant, and Concession and Event Specialist positions as those positions are not part of the temporary job grant program.

Essential Functions

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the class. City Clerk’s Office: Assists with preparation and posting of agenda packets for City Council meetings.  Assists with the reproduction and distribution of City Council and Commission agenda packets and records. Attends and prepares meeting minutes. Assists with public records requests. Assists City Clerk’s office with general filing and records management. Prepares basic correspondence and follow-up notes. Performs other related duties as assigned. Food and Beverage Services: Operates concession stand and coffee shop as assigned; prepares and sells menu items to be served to guests including food and beverages; adheres to standard recipes, menus, and methods of food and beverage preparation, portions, cost and waste control; opens and closes facilities. Operates food preparation equipment and appliances safely; sets up and closes out a variety of equipment and tools, including clean-up of this equipment. Sets up and takes down equipment and ensures all equipment and supplies are properly stored and secured at all times. Processes payments and utilizes a computerized cashiering system; maintains accurate accounting of sales and receipts. Follows cash handling procedures, ensuring policies are enforced and maintained. Maintains the highest standards of customer service and handles a variety of situations using tact and diplomacy. Attends, and participates in staff meetings and trainings. Completes appropriate reports and forms as necessary. Required to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs other related duties as assigned.  Department of Administrative Services: Assists public with questions related to services and programs; receives, refers, and directs callers and visitors to appropriate departments and personnel.   Processes payments for parking citations, building permits, and bus pass sales.  Receives and records business license renewal payments; organizes new files and mails business license applications. Organizes, copies, and archives documents. Scans parking citations and other records. Prepares basic correspondence and follow-up notes. Performs other related duties as assigned. Department of Development Services/ Street Maintenance: Assists in repaving, patching, overlaying, pothole, and crack sealing repair of asphalt. Removes damaged improvements and set concrete forms. Repairs curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. Responsible for the upkeep of bus shelters. Pressure washes as needed. Removes debris as needed. Weed abatement. Maintenance Yard upkeep. Performs other related duties as assigned. Department of Development Services/ Landscape Maintenance: Assists in landscape turf mowing and edging. Weed abatement; Hedge/shrub trimming; tree planting. Performs daily litter and debris control. Cleans and maintains City facilities and park shelters. Performs daily janitorial services. Assists Park Maintenance Workers by polishing fencing, light poles, and shade structures. Disinfects playgrounds and workout equipment/stations with mild cleaning solutions. Cleans and deodorizes trash enclosures. Assists with pressure washing benches and walkways. Reports and assists with removing graffiti on various surfaces and finishes. Rakes and replenishes mulch beds. Repairs damaged D.G. walking paths. Assists sports field crews. Performs other related duties as assigned. Department of Development Services/ Sports Fields: Assists sports field crews with game day preparation. Game day maintenance between contests or practices.  Relocates pitching mounds and bases.  Rakes and chalks fields.  Waters infield skin.  Maintains cleanliness of carts and equipment.  Performs other related duties as assigned. Department of Development Services / Planning Division: Conducts municipal research and analytical work using various research techniques and methods. Project filing and organization of existing planning files. Updates planning applications. Creates educational and informational handouts. Assists in managing projects and conducting project intakes, project/plan reviews, and preparing staff reports. Prepares basic correspondence, notices, reports, and follow-up notes. Assists at the public counter and responds to inquiries from the public. Performs other related duties as assigned. Department of Community Services/Recreation and Youth Learning Activity Center Division: Assists patrons with questions and concerns; answers phone calls and provides information to customers as needed; assists with purchasing supplies. Registers Patron for recreation programs; collects fees. Assists with lesson plans and craft activities for Tiny Tots Program; assists in creating monthly calendars and flyers; provides information to parents about program and child activities; assists with cleanups given toilet training accidents. Supervises children involved in activities and maintains a safe environment; prepares snacks; assists with homework. Supervises and administers Summer Lunch Program; sets up and organizes meal; keeps records of attendance. Assists with special events by supervising children and other program participants in an assigned area and provides direction. Leads program participants in recreational activities. Prepares and maintains accurate written reports and participant records for programs. Assists with furniture arrangement, equipment set-up, and room set-ups. Assists with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies; inspects and cleans recreation facilities including kitchen area, lobby, and restrooms. Observes safety and City rules and regulations; ensures park and facility users are aware of rules and regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned.  Required to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
