Chief Lending Officer – Credit Union

Location: Hybrid

Position Overview:
As the Chief Lending Officer (CLO) at MassMutual Federal Credit Union (MMFCU), you will play a pivotal role within a diverse and supportive team. Our commitment is to provide a consistent and exceptional experience for our members and prospective members. In this capacity, you will be tasked with developing and executing the lending strategy that aligns with the broader strategic objectives of the organization. Your role will involve shaping the lending vision through data-driven insights, evaluating product offerings, and advising on interest rate frameworks. Furthermore, you will foster open communication and collaboration with fellow executives and the board of directors.

Team Dynamics:
The CLO team consists of two loan officers, a loan underwriter, a collector, and a lending assistant. This team is expected to work collaboratively across various business units within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate, advocate for, and implement both short-term and long-term lending objectives by product.
  • Oversee the development and execution of lending policies and strategies; spearhead initiatives related to new product offerings in lending and associated programs.
  • Provide leadership to the lending and collections teams through regular meetings, effective goal setting, delegation, and communication.
  • Conduct annual evaluations of existing policies and recommend updates in line with changing regulations, legal requirements, industry trends, and historical data.
  • Project the performance of lending products and monitor monthly charge-offs.
  • Ensure strong service delivery and maintain productive relationships with members, regulatory bodies, key staff from essential vendors, external services, and the public.
  • Manage and analyze delinquencies, charge-offs, bankruptcies, look-to-book ratios, and foreclosures. Present findings regularly to executive management and the board.
  • Guarantee compliance with approved policies, objectives, and relevant laws and regulations. Supervise training for all credit union personnel regarding policies and procedures, ensuring comprehensive knowledge of all lending and collection aspects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related discipline.
  • Over 10 years of experience in interpreting lending policies and procedures, including state and federal regulations related to lending, collections, insurance, and associated functions.
  • At least 8 years of experience in originating and managing lending policies.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong communication skills with direct reports, credit union staff, and board members.
  • Understanding of audit functions, procedures, and relevant regulations.
  • Ability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Familiarity with credit union terminology and acronyms.
