Position Overview:
As the Chief Lending Officer (CLO) at MassMutual, you will play a crucial role within a diverse and talented team dedicated to providing exceptional service to our members. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and execute the lending strategy that aligns with the organization's strategic objectives. You will lead the vision for lending, utilizing data-driven insights to evaluate products and recommend interest rate frameworks. Collaboration and open communication with fellow executives and the board will be key components of your role.
Team Structure:
The CLO department consists of a team of professionals including loan officers, an underwriter, a collections specialist, and a lending assistant. This team is expected to work collaboratively across various business units within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate, advocate for, and implement both short-term and long-term lending objectives by product line.
- Oversee the development and execution of lending policies and strategies; spearhead initiatives related to new product offerings.
- Provide leadership to the lending and collections teams through regular meetings, clear goal setting, delegation, and effective communication.
- Conduct annual assessments of existing policies, recommending updates to ensure compliance with evolving regulations and industry standards.
- Project the performance of lending products and manage monthly charge-off forecasts.
- Maintain strong relationships with members, regulatory bodies, key staff from essential vendors, and the public.
- Oversee the management of delinquencies, charge-offs, bankruptcies, and foreclosures, presenting findings to executive management and the board.
- Ensure adherence to approved policies and applicable laws, providing training for all credit union staff on relevant lending and collection procedures.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in business or a related discipline.
- Over 10 years of experience in interpreting lending policies and regulations, including both State and Federal guidelines.
- At least 8 years of experience in originating and managing lending policies.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong communication skills with direct reports, credit union staff, and board members.
- Knowledge of audit functions and relevant regulations.
- Ability to analyze problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Familiarity with credit union terminology and acronyms.
