POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Applications Scientist role at NESCO Inc. is focused on advancing the research and initial development of innovative reagents, workflows, and assay solutions in the domain of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in optimizing NGS workflows, complemented by practical expertise in nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, target enrichment, sequencing, and subsequent data analysis.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant should have a solid foundation in molecular biology and related fields concerning human diseases, with hands-on experience in designing, refining, and validating NGS-based workflows.

  • Maintain accurate and thorough records of experimental methodologies, materials, and outcomes in electronic laboratory notebooks.
  • Analyze experimental data, assess results, draw conclusions, and plan future experiments.
  • Utilize extensive knowledge of molecular biology techniques to proactively address assay challenges, troubleshoot technical issues, and interpret data effectively.
  • Present findings, including scientific context and project updates, at internal meetings and cross-functional team discussions.
  • Foster and sustain productive relationships with Development personnel; provide orientation and training for new R&D staff as necessary.
  • Draft and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Biological/Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline. For the Senior Scientist level, a minimum of a BS degree with 6+ years or an MS with 3+ years of relevant industry experience is required.

  • Strong background in molecular biology.
  • Experience in assay design, optimization, validation, experimental design, data analysis, and presentation.
  • Proficiency in next-generation sequencing methods (Exome, whole genome, RNA sequencing).
  • Exceptional communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with next-generation sequencing using Illumina platforms such as NovaSeq, HiSeq, Nextseq, and MiSeq is advantageous.

Prior experience in the analysis and interpretation of NGS data is beneficial. Familiarity with various genomic analysis technologies, including microarrays and real-time PCR, as well as ancillary equipment for quality control and validation, is a plus.

An understanding of oncology biology is also preferred.
