Registered Veterinary Technician

Job Summary:
The Sacramento Society For The Prevention of Cruelty is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Veterinary Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Spay and Neuter Clinic, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist licensed veterinarians in providing medical treatment to animals, including surgical procedures and medical examinations.
- Prepare patients for surgery, including administering anesthetic and pre-anesthetic medications as needed.
- Provide support during surgery, taking temperature, pulse, and respiration readings, and administering pharmaceuticals as required.
- Collect and prepare blood, urine, and feces samples for laboratory analysis.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment, adhering to strict aseptic surgical techniques and animal care protocols.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of medical equipment, facilities, and animal housing.
- Impound, quarantine, and restrain animals as necessary, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Examine animals and make referrals to veterinarians as needed, providing accurate information and friendly professional service to the public and colleagues.
- Microchip animals, order and restock medical supplies, and perform other tasks as required.
- Assign and oversee medically related duties to volunteers and Animal Care Attendants, ensuring seamless workflow and exceptional patient care.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient care, including medical history, treatment plans, and outcomes.
Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Six months of experience assisting a licensed veterinarian in providing medical treatment to animals, including surgical procedures and medical examinations.
- Current California Registered Veterinary Technician License, with a commitment to ongoing continuing education and professional development.
- Valid California driver's license and a clear driving record.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with occasional exposure to dead, injured, sick, unruly, vicious, and/or dangerous animals.
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed, with flexibility to adapt to changing workloads and priorities.
Salary: $19.50 - $28.50 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
