Traffic Engineering Project Specialist

Position Summary:
The Traffic Engineering Project Specialist is responsible for the engineering design, traffic operations, and analysis. This role requires a solid understanding of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments with minimal supervision. The specialist will also serve as a technical advisor to junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan, schedule, and conduct detailed phases of engineering work for major projects or moderate scope projects.
2. Utilize various design software/tools (such as Synchro, HCS, and/or VISSIM) for traffic analysis across different conditions, including traffic modeling and signal systems.
3. Prepare comprehensive technical reports covering traffic impact, transportation planning, and traffic safety. This includes volume development calculations, crash evaluations, safety assessments, and HSM analysis.
4. Perform design computations and ensure projects align with client specifications and guidelines using appropriate design software and drawing tools.
5. Develop construction cost estimates and assist in preparing engineering documents for advertisement and construction.
6. Collaborate with internal team members to ensure project completion within defined deadlines and quality standards.

Required Skills:
- Proficiency in discipline-specific traffic modeling and analysis software.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited program.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in a specialized discipline.
- Professional Engineer License.

Preferred Experience:
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification.
- Experience working with local clients at county and state levels.
- Familiarity with PANYNJ and NJDOT processes.

Working Conditions:
The majority of work is performed in a standard office environment, which is generally sedentary but may require occasional standing and walking. Fieldwork may be necessary, which could involve exposure to varying weather conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
