Job Overview

The HVAC Training Specialist, within the Academics & Training (A&T) Unit, acts as a supportive facilitator, engaging with both academic and industry-specific content through diverse teaching methods that incorporate both andragogy and pedagogy techniques for approximately 25-30 learners in each 90-minute session. The HVAC Training Specialist collaborates as a co-facilitator, delivering essential adult basic education and specialized training to ensure success in academic assessments and certification examinations.

Key Responsibilities

Facilitating Learning

  • Welcome students at the beginning of each class and conclude sessions effectively.
  • Create an engaging, safe, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Personalize students' learning experiences through blended instructional techniques.
  • Introduce new concepts and skills thoughtfully; assess student comprehension and provide support as needed.
  • Utilize technology to enhance the learning atmosphere.
  • Encourage students to apply their knowledge through real-world, industry-related projects and activities.
  • Prepare students for assessments in alignment with departmental guidelines.
  • Support students in achieving TABE gains throughout their educational journey.
  • Guide students to successfully complete all relevant GED subject tests and/or CTE certifications.

Learning Management

  • Design and submit daily differentiated lesson plans that align with course objectives and cater to individual student needs.
  • Provide clear daily lesson guides for students and the Lab Coach partner.
  • Prepare the classroom environment, ensuring technology and materials are ready for use.
  • Develop and maintain students' Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
  • Analyze student performance data to inform instructional planning and support student success.
  • Reflect on student progress and personal teaching practices for continuous improvement.
  • Document and input student data into the Learning Management System (LMS) and/or relevant databases.
  • Track daily attendance and follow up on absenteeism to provide necessary support.

Student Engagement

  • Establish and nurture strong professional relationships with students.
  • Collaborate with Student Support Specialists to address student challenges and enhance retention strategies.

Organizational Engagement

  • Exemplify professionalism and uphold organizational values in all roles.
  • Participate actively in community engagement initiatives and student recruitment activities.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams and contribute to organizational committees.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in trade and technical fields.
  • A Bachelor's degree or relevant certifications in trade and technical areas.
  • Previous teaching experience in the relevant content area within an alternative educational setting.
  • Willingness to obtain professional licensure within the first 90 days of employment if not already certified.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships with a diverse student and staff population.
  • Capacity to engage in constructive dialogue and provide/receive feedback for professional growth.
