Role Overview

We are seeking a Project Services Consultant to concentrate on enhancing the business processes related to project delivery and information access. We welcome Entry and Mid-Level Candidates with relevant skills who are eager to embrace this opportunity.

This position is vital for aiding our project managers within the Projects & Engineering Governance Team at Rio Tinto. Reporting to the Manager - Project Services, your responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding current business processes related to project development and business case formulation
  • Contributing to a centralized repository for project data management (light database)
  • Improving templates, reports, and user interfaces for information retrieval
  • Utilizing Microsoft Power Apps, Dataverse, Power Automate, SharePoint, Excel, and VBA to automate existing business workflows into a unified application environment.
  • Optimizing processes through automation and workflow enhancements
  • Documenting workflows and methodologies (Visio, Word)
  • Creating user guides and instructional materials
  • Becoming a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in local project development processes

With experience, you will also be able to:

  • Ensure that all necessary information is available for new project creation in the capital portfolio
  • Assist project managers in classifying their projects and identifying the appropriate automated governance procedures
  • Evaluate submitted documentation at each Stage Gate to confirm completeness and quality
  • Monitor and report on deliverables and timelines for documentation across the project portfolio
  • Develop expertise in PMI project management methodologies

You will be supported by team members who are experts in project management processes, effective communication, and data management. The team includes members who can share responsibilities, but you are expected to become the SME.

Qualifications Required

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Experience in coding for business, process enhancement, and effective information organization
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated experience collaborating with team members to understand requirements, devise plans, and execute small-scale projects
  • Knowledge and some experience with Microsoft Power Apps, Dataverse, and Power Automate
  • Proficiency in coding with examples (any programming language)
  • Familiarity with SharePoint
  • Understanding of the PMI Stage Gate process for project management
  • A capacity to switch between team collaboration and independent tasks daily
  • The ability to communicate technical details to non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidates will also have:

  • Proven experience in business process improvement related to workflows, procedures, and documentation
  • Advanced skills in Excel and VBA
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong organizational and information tracking abilities
  • The ability to engage in discussions with technical professionals regarding mining, industrial, or construction topics
