Our facility in Columbus, Ohio, is committed to providing exceptional care for animals rescued from cruelty cases and natural disasters. Our team collaborates closely with various departments to ensure a holistic approach to animal welfare.

Role of the Licensed Veterinary Technician:

The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality veterinary services. This position involves providing empathetic nursing care and assisting veterinarians with examinations, treatments, and diagnostic procedures, adhering to best practices in shelter medicine.

Key Responsibilities:

Nursing Care and Veterinary Assistance (65%):

  • Deliver compassionate patient care using low-stress handling techniques.
  • Demonstrate proficient technical skills such as venipuncture, catheter placement, and diagnostic testing.
  • Conduct basic examinations and triage as necessary.
  • Prepare and submit samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Assist in emergency procedures, including CPCR.
  • Administer medications and maintain pharmacological records.
  • Participate in daily medical rounds and monitor the health of shelter animals.
  • Document observations of animal health and communicate with the medical team.
  • Support humane euthanasia processes when required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in medical areas.
  • Assist with dental procedures and radiographs as needed.
  • Transport animals for off-site appointments.
  • Ensure safe handling and restraint of animals during procedures.
  • Participate in evidence collection for animal cruelty investigations.
  • Monitor post-operative patients for safety and comfort.

Collaboration and Administrative Duties (35%):

  • Work alongside behavior and sheltering teams to provide comprehensive care.
  • Ensure accurate data entry in medical records.
  • Assist with inventory management and supply ordering.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Communicate effectively with team members regarding animal status and care updates.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and assist in maintaining a safe working environment.

Qualifications:
