Job Summary

The Veterinary Assistant will play a critical role in supporting our veterinarians and technicians in providing top-notch patient care. This individual will be responsible for assisting with patient exams, preparing patients for surgery, and monitoring vital signs during procedures. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrate a strong commitment to providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians with patient exams, including taking vital signs and providing client education
  • Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures
  • Obtain blood, stool, and other samples, and perform in-hospital laboratory testing
  • Take and develop radiographs, following proper safety procedures
  • Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams
  • Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
  • Clean and maintain exam rooms, treatment areas, and lab spaces
  • Restock exam rooms with supplies and assist other team members in maintaining a clean and organized workspace
Requirements
  • Previous veterinary experience preferred
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance
  • Practice OSHA safety techniques, including proper PPE
  • Basic math skills and ability to calculate medication dosages
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with MS Office applications
  • Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety
