This role involves working closely with various teams to ensure seamless operations and high-quality care for animals affected by neglect, abuse, or natural disasters.
The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) is a qualified and certified professional who collaborates with veterinarians and other staff to provide exemplary veterinary services.
The LVT will offer compassionate nursing care and assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, and diagnostic procedures, adhering to best practices in animal care.
Key Responsibilities:

Nursing Care and Veterinary Assistance (

Deliver compassionate and quality patient care, employing low-stress handling techniques
Demonstrate proficient technical nursing skills, including but not limited to: venipuncture, catheter placement, intubation, diagnostic testing, and radiography
Conduct basic examinations and triage
Prepare samples for laboratory submission and follow up as necessary
Assist in and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Administer oral, topical, and injectable medications with proficiency in pharmacology
Prioritize responsibilities based on the needs of the shelter and patients
Participate in daily medical rounds and regularly engage in medical population rounds
Review treatment schedules and medical concerns to ensure timely care
Monitor animals for signs of illness or injury and document findings
Assist with humane euthanasia when necessary
Maintain cleanliness and organization in medical areas
Perform dental cleanings and radiographs as trained
Administer and monitor anesthesia safely
Transport patients for off-site appointments
Possess thorough knowledge of veterinary medical concepts
Utilize safe animal handling and restraint techniques
Clean and disinfect kennels and equipment while using appropriate PPE
Support basic animal care tasks such as feeding and medicating as directed
Assist with evidence collection for animal cruelty investigations
Monitor post-operative patients for safety and comfort
Communicate any safety concerns to supervisors
Collaboration and Administration (35

Education and Experience:
Licensed veterinary technician in the state of Ohio; candidates with pending licensure may be considered
Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience with dogs and cats
Experience in animal shelters is preferred
Knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS) is beneficial
Willingness to travel as needed
