Day Program Specialist/Direct Support Professional

Job Summary:
The Arc of Greater New Haven, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Day Program Specialist/Direct Support Professional to join our team. As a key member of our direct care staff, you will play a vital role in providing support and services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and support to participants in our day program, including assistance with daily living activities, personal care, and mobility.
- Develop and implement individualized program plans to meet the unique needs and goals of each participant.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care and support.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of participant progress and services provided.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Contribute to a positive and supportive team environment.
Requirements:
- Valid CT driver's license and three years of driving experience with a good driving record.
- Red Cross First Aid, CPR, AED, and Medication Administration Certification.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to read and write English and follow written instructions and plans.
- Physical ability to perform tasks that require standing, walking, lifting, and transferring participants.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Exposure to latex, plastic, and materials used for personal protective equipment.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals such as disinfectants, cleansers, and soaps.
- Exposure to unpredictable behavior of participants.
- Exposure to loud or unpleasant noises.
- Exposure to unpleasant odors due to the care of incontinent individuals.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide direct care and support to participants in our day program.
- Develop and implement individualized program plans.
