PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:

The Boys and Girls Village INC is dedicated to providing support to children through a therapeutic educational environment. Collaborative teams, including families and educational professionals, create Individualized Educational Programs (IEP) tailored to each student’s needs.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Educational Support Specialist is responsible for delivering direct care, managing behaviors, and facilitating educational and therapeutic services for the children at Boys and Girls Village INC. This role includes assisting children transitioning from the educational setting to their respective shelters and supporting after-school routines. During school breaks and closures, the specialist may also work in the shelter as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide essential support to enhance clients' behavioral, emotional, educational, and social growth in alignment with individualized service plans within a structured therapeutic environment.
  • Engage in the development and execution of programs aimed at fostering developmental progress across various age groups.
  • Co-facilitate weekly therapeutic groups under the supervision of clinical staff.
  • Assist educational staff in classroom activities and lesson implementation.
  • Utilize crisis intervention techniques as necessary to ensure safety.
  • Maintain appropriate ratios and motivation as outlined in point sheets.
  • Create a safe, nurturing environment for children in care.
  • Ensure the objectives of each client’s service plan are integrated into daily activities.
  • Document client responses to care and therapeutic interventions.
  • Report crisis situations, including elopements and significant behavioral incidents, to supervisory staff immediately.
  • When scheduled in the shelter, be prepared to work in adverse weather conditions and remain beyond the scheduled shift if required.
  • Familiarize and comply with all program policies and procedures.
  • Complete Incident Reports as necessary.
  • Document in accordance with relevant policies and regulations.
  • When providing one-on-one support, maintain close proximity to the client until relieved by another staff member.
  • Participate in weekly supervision and staff meetings.
  • Share observations of client behaviors with supervisory staff as requested.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Adhere to the staffing schedule, understanding that assignments are based on program needs.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with children in a therapeutic or educational setting.
  • Prior experience in recreational, educational, residential, or day programs for children.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Specialized certification to transport students in agency vehicles.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Boys & Girls Village Model.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish.
  • Understanding of cultural diversity and child development principles.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • None.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must successfully pass a physical examination.
  • Must be physically capable of engaging in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
  • Ability to lift over forty-five pounds.
  • Ability to move furniture as necessary.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Willingness to drive off-site and transport children as needed.
