Overview

This role involves providing nursing and therapeutic support by executing treatment plans established by healthcare professionals. The position typically includes caring for clients or patients with acute or chronic disabilities, which may involve physical, mental, or developmental challenges.

Key Responsibilities

The following are essential functions that are common across all roles in this category. This list is not exhaustive and may include additional duties as required:

Mentor and orient newly hired or less experienced staff to ensure all tasks are completed effectively. Facilitate individual and group therapeutic sessions focusing on reality orientation, sensory engagement, range of motion exercises, and the application of assistive devices. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary care team to provide insights regarding the individual's overall health status, capabilities, and behavioral traits. Maintain the aseptic integrity of feeding, catheter, and respiratory devices while assisting individuals with personal hygiene. Monitor and document vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, while also tracking nutritional intake and output. Notify professional staff of any significant changes or irregularities. Provide detailed oral and written reports regarding any changes in the individual's physical or behavioral condition. Observe client activities, documenting and reporting any unusual or hazardous behaviors. Conduct regular rounds to ensure the safety and well-being of clients. Escort individuals to social, recreational, and medical appointments as needed. Implement appropriate interventions to prevent or de-escalate challenging behaviors.

Qualifications

Requirements for Nursing Support Specialist

Candidates must possess the necessary education, training, and/or experience demonstrating proficiency in the following areas:

Valid certification as a Nursing Assistant in Delaware or eligibility for certification.

Employment Conditions

This position is part of a classification represented by a labor organization that has been selected by employees for collective bargaining and other relevant employment terms, in accordance with applicable regulations.
