HR and Safety Coordinator

Overview:

This pivotal administrative role is designed to enhance on-site timekeeping, recruitment, and overall human resources functions, alongside safety management duties. A solid background in HR and safety is essential. The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in computer applications, with the ability to manage sensitive information and collaborate effectively with hourly manufacturing personnel. This position reports directly to the HR Director and works in close partnership with the Plant Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Human Resources Functions:
  • Maintain comprehensive employee and applicant records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support the open enrollment and benefits administration processes.
  • Conduct thorough reference and background checks, including e-Verify.
  • Manage HRIS data entry and maintain personnel files.
  • Facilitate new employee orientations to promote a positive workplace culture.
  • Assist employees and supervisors in understanding HR policies and procedures.
  • Oversee daily timecard processing and attendance tracking.
  • Provide accurate reporting of hours worked.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Recruiter on recruitment and interview processes.
  • Support the performance evaluation process.
  • Document employee relations issues and consult with the HR Director as necessary.
  • Assist with employee separations and conduct exit interviews to understand turnover reasons.
  • Support the HR Director with site-specific initiatives.
Safety Management Duties:
  • Assist in accident investigations and reporting, including documentation and submission to the Workers' Compensation carrier.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 logs to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Ensure all employees in designated areas meet medical surveillance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate medical surveillance records.
  • Manage employer-sponsored PPE logs for employee reimbursement and ensure compliance with PPE specifications.
  • Provide administrative support for safety-related projects as needed.
  • Maintain training logs and records for employees.
  • Ensure the upkeep of material safety data sheets.
  • Assist the HR Director and Plant Manager with specific projects and initiatives related to safety.
Required Qualifications:
  • 2-3 years of experience in human resources.
  • 1-2 years of exposure to safety management.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with hourly plant employees.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to engage with employees on the plant floor to build relationships and understand business operations.
