Position Overview:

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities? The Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities. We are seeking a committed and experienced professional to take on the role of Lead Advocate within the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD).

The DDD is focused on providing high-quality, flexible services and support to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. As a Lead Advocate, you will play a crucial role in empowering these individuals to lead self-directed, fulfilling lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and nurture partnerships with individuals, families, and key stakeholders to foster recovery, resilience, and wellness. Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Collaborate with various health plans and organizations to enhance family and peer support services for members with developmental disabilities.
  • Develop and assess service linkages within the community, advocating for quality services and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of community resources.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of the signs of abuse, trauma, and mental health challenges.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations concerning individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to connect with diverse populations.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and negotiation.
  • Cultural sensitivity and a willingness to learn about various family structures and communication styles.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a Master's or Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field, along with relevant experience in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.

Employment Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Successful completion of background checks and verification processes.
  • Possession of a Level One fingerprint clearance card.
