Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated overnight Victim Support Specialist. In this role, you will provide essential services to individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence, primarily operating from the designated support shelter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver crisis intervention, supportive counseling, and advocacy to individuals and families in distress via the crisis hotline and assigned locations.
  • Collaborate with various service providers and community organizations to assist clients in accessing necessary resources.
  • Serve as the primary responder for the evening and weekend on-call crisis hotline, managing crisis situations effectively.
  • Support Advocacy staff by working closely with the management team on program functions.
  • Document services provided and maintain accurate records.
  • Inform clients about available community services and assist with referrals and application processes for various needs, including compensation claims and benefits.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols while ensuring client confidentiality.
  • Develop and maintain individualized service plans and coordinate activities to meet client needs and uphold their rights.
  • Provide training on life skills such as safety planning and navigating civil/legal systems.
  • Arrange transportation for clients to connect with necessary services including courts and medical providers.
  • Engage in case management with clients, collaborating with community partners including law enforcement and legal representatives.
  • Ensure safety planning for victims while maintaining staff safety in various environments.
  • Maintain comprehensive records for client services and program documentation.
  • Oversee specific program functions as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for working with individuals and families, with a solid understanding of family development and service delivery systems.
  • Completion of all required training for certification as a Rape Crisis Counselor and Domestic Violence Advocate.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate resourcefulness and organization.
  • Familiarity with local geography and knowledge of civil/legal systems and human service resources.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with proficiency in documentation and reporting.
  • Experience with complex data entry and the ability to interpret detailed information.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a supportive and non-judgmental manner.
  • Skills in directing the work of others and problem-solving.
  • Professionalism and good judgment in maintaining client confidentiality.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulations and rights for the populations served.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, including those with special needs.
  • Flexibility in work schedule to meet program demands, including participation in on-call emergency services.
  • Good health to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel and client transport.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in a Human Services field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Human Services or Victim Assistance programs.
  • Equivalent combination of education, experience, and training will be considered.

Full-Time Position: 36 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Grade 9 (base rate $17.34 per hour + an additional $2/hour for overnight hours)
