Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated overnight Victim Advocate to join our organization.
In this role, you will provide essential services to victims of domestic and/or sexual violence and other crimes through designated support programming, primarily at the shelter.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver crisis intervention, supportive counseling, advocacy, and solution-focused decision-making to individuals and families facing victimization via the crisis hotline and/or assigned locations.
Collaborate with a variety of service providers and community organizations to engage clients and assist them in accessing necessary services.
Serve as the primary responder for the evening and weekend on-call crisis hotline; provide crisis intervention, supportive counseling, advocacy, and solution-focused decision-making to individuals and families experiencing victimization; effectively manage crisis situations.
Work alongside the management team to support Advocacy staff with program functions.Assist with documentation of services provided.
Inform clients of available community services tailored to their specific needs. Facilitate referrals and provide advocacy and assistance with completing applications for various individual needs, including compensation claims and housing benefits.
Adhere to strict safety protocols while advocating for victims, ensuring the confidentiality of staff.
Develop and maintain assessments and individualized service plans, coordinating service activities to help clients meet their needs and protect their rights in various civil and legal processes.
Provide education and coaching on life skills such as safety planning, navigating civil/legal systems, positive problem-solving, and fostering healthy relationships.Arrange transportation to enable clients to connect with courts, law enforcement, medical providers, and other essential community resources.
Case-manage on behalf of clients in collaboration with co-workers, supervisors, and community partners, including law enforcement, local courts, prosecutors, probation officers, and attorneys as necessary.
Plan safety measures for victims of domestic violence and crime while ensuring staff safety in diverse settings, including client homes, court accompaniments, and property viewings.
Maintain detailed records for individual client-related services, along with various documentation used to report program outcomes, provide data for the agency's management system, and complete paperwork for billable services and grant reports.
Oversee program-specific functions as assigned.Qualifications:
A passion for working with individuals and families, along with a solid understanding of the family development process and the OCO Service Delivery system.
Ability to work independently, demonstrating self-motivation, resourcefulness, organization, and adaptability in fulfilling job responsibilities.
Familiarity with the geographical layout of the county and knowledge of civil/legal systems and human service resources available in the area.
Strong oral and written communication skills, coupled with excellent documentation and reporting abilities.
Proficiency in complex data entry and the capability to read, interpret, and manipulate complex information.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others in a warm, non-judgmental manner and serve as a positive role model.Ability to guide the work of others, prioritize tasks, and solve problems effectively.
Exhibit professionalism, sound judgment, and maintain strict confidentiality regarding client information.
Possess a comprehensive understanding of regulations, services, rights, and responsibilities relevant to the population served.
Ability to work with populations with special needs, including those who may exhibit aggressive behaviors.
Flexibility in work schedule is required to meet program needs; participation in 24-hour on-call emergency services on a rotating basis is necessary.
Good health is required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.A valid NYS Driver's license with a clean driving record and access to a properly insured, reliable vehicle for regular travel and transporting clients is mandatory.
Minimum Qualifications:
An Associate's Degree in a Human Services field is preferred; and
1-3 years of experience in Human Services/Victim Assistance programming with diverse age groups and populations; or
Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
Full-Time Position: 36 hours per week / 52 weeks per year
Grade 9 (base rate $17.34 per hour + an additional $2/hour for hours worked between 11pm-6am)
