Lead Research Scientist in Educational Measurement

Position Overview
The Senior Research Scientist role is integral to the Pearson Psychometric and Research Services division, which operates within the US School Assessment group and the broader Assessment and Qualifications team.
Key Responsibilities
Pearson's research scientists deliver comprehensive psychometric support to various state and national clients, innovate methodologies, and engage in pioneering research initiatives.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in educational measurement or a closely related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of three years of pertinent experience, ideally addressing a wide array of psychometric challenges encountered in operational assessment programs or significant research endeavors.
- Proficiency in psychometric methodologies or relevant specialized techniques.
Technical Skills
- Ability to apply, design, and instruct others in psychometric solutions, including classical test theory, item response theory, test equating, scaling, linking, and standard setting.
- Familiarity with software tools and programming languages commonly utilized in psychometric research (e.g., SAS, R, SPSS, WINSTEPS, IRTPro, PARSCALE, C++, MPLUS).
Scaling and Equating Expertise
- Proficient in scaling and equating methodologies, capable of reviewing and producing technical documentation.
- Responsible for conducting and overseeing analyses related to item calibration, linking, and equating.
Research and Grant Management
- Design and specify research studies and analyses.
- Identify study limitations and funding requirements to fulfill proposed research objectives.
Test Development
- Coordinate with research scientists, data analysts, and subject-matter experts to manage all aspects of test design and field testing.
Proposal Development
- Prepare technical designs for proposals and contribute to proposal review teams as needed.
Educational Trends Awareness
- Analyze national and state educational trends and their implications for assessment programs and research projects.
Communication and Presentation Skills
- Exhibit strong communication abilities necessary for effective leadership in interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Tailor technical presentations for diverse audiences and represent the organization at national conferences.
Project Management
- Demonstrate project management capabilities essential for overseeing multiple assessment programs or complex research projects.
Compensation
The minimum salary range for this full-time position is between $135,000 - $160,000, with eligibility for an annual incentive program.
