Lead Research Associate
Position Overview:
The Lead Research Associate will engage in both independent and collaborative research efforts within the realms of molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and developmental biology in a Drosophila laboratory setting. This role encompasses the preparation of laboratory equipment and materials to ensure the smooth execution of experiments.
The Lead Research Associate will be tasked with gathering, documenting, and analyzing experimental data, as well as contributing to the development of grant proposals and scholarly articles in partnership with senior research personnel and the Principal Investigator. This position will also provide support to the laboratory manager, undergraduate and doctoral students, research associates, and fellow research assistants.
The research conducted in the Helfand Laboratory is centered on deciphering the molecular, cellular, and genetic mechanisms that influence aging and lifespan determination, utilizing the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, as a model organism. Our approach integrates a variety of methodologies, including molecular, genetic, cellular, neurobiological, pharmacological, immunological, and behavioral techniques, to explore the intricacies of aging and lifespan regulation. By leveraging advanced molecular genetic techniques alongside comprehensive knowledge of Drosophila physiology, anatomy, behavior, and lifespan-altering interventions, we have established a robust model for investigating the genetic underpinnings of aging.
This is a fixed-term role with a potential for extension based on funding availability.

- Preferred qualifications include specific experience with Drosophila melanogaster, RNA/DNA purification and analysis, sequencing, biochemistry, or cellular imaging.
Core Competencies:
- Exceptional organizational, technical/scientific, and time management skills.
- Capability to supervise and mentor others.
