Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Flight Department Systems Engineer Functional Homeroom Section Manager 2 - FSS. This role is based in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program. A competitive relocation assistance package may be offered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate staffing requirements, both current and anticipated, collaborating with team leads to address these needs.
  • Support recruitment efforts, including requisition creation, conducting interviews, and approving offers.
  • Collaborate with program leaders to establish personal, program, and functional objectives, and conduct performance evaluations and merit adjustments for team members.
  • Provide career development guidance, mentoring, and necessary disciplinary actions for subordinates.
  • Ensure acquisition of necessary computers, equipment, and tools for team members to perform their tasks effectively.
  • Develop training plans based on program needs and team member requirements.
  • Communicate organizational status regularly to the team and represent the organization effectively in various forums.
  • Lead teams in developing, modifying, and maintaining systems, applying engineering best practices and standards, with 80% of responsibilities being technical in nature. This role may include Cost Account Management and Risk Management duties.
  • Set and promote high standards for engineering development.
  • Cultivate a work environment that reinforces accountability to Northrop Grumman's core values, emphasizing integrity, quality, shared success, and innovation.
  • Partner with engineering and program management peers to ensure efficient resource allocation to meet key mission priorities.
  • Mentor, support, train, and motivate team members to achieve high performance levels.
  • Initiate and lead continuous improvement initiatives to establish high-quality and efficient DevOps/Development processes.
  • Collaborate with peers and management in resource planning and hiring activities.

This position entails dual responsibilities, requiring the candidate to engage in both functional management activities and current program responsibilities. It is anticipated that functional management will comprise 20% of the candidate's time.

This position follows a standard work schedule of 9/80, allowing employees who work nine-hour days from Monday to Thursday to take every other Friday off. A competitive relocation assistance package may be available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree in STEM with 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active Secret clearance and an in-scope investigation date within the last 6 years, along with current Special Program Access.
  • At least 1 year of experience leading a project and/or driving performance against a schedule.
  • 3+ years of experience with phases of the systems engineering development life cycle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Top-Secret Clearance.
  • 2 years of experience with program control (IMS, EVMS), budgeting, and staffing.
  • Proven leadership skills in team settings.
  • Experience in functional management.
  • Current technical involvement in the Sentinel Program.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent efforts.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Familiarity with the full life cycle of a development program.
  • Experience in missile systems.

Salary Range: $131,200 - $196,800. This salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position, as well as the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay, designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may qualify for Long Term Incentives. Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plans, company-paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and personal business.
