Position Overview

The Registered Nurse in the Obstetrics Department is responsible for delivering both direct and indirect patient care. This role involves utilizing the nursing process to develop and execute patient care plans, which include education for patients and their families, as well as planning for ongoing care.

The Registered Nurse must demonstrate strong communication abilities and effectively interact with physicians, colleagues, patients, and their families. Collaboration with all members of the healthcare team is essential to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care tailored to the specific conditions and requirements of patients.
  • Engage in consultation and collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Establish, review, modify, and adhere to patient care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments within the Registered Nurse's scope of practice.
  • Document patient care activities, including assessments, reassessments, and ongoing treatment notes in the medical record.
  • Utilize various computer systems effectively.
  • Operate medical equipment necessary for patient care.
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding treatment plans, diagnoses, medications, discharge procedures, and self-care practices.
  • Deliver patient care in accordance with established nursing standards, promoting positive outcomes while ensuring patient safety and well-being.
  • Exhibit the ability and willingness to adhere to established performance standards.

Organizational Expectations

Actively engage in safety behavior initiatives, including participation in briefings, debriefings, huddles, and reporting of unexpected patient events, regardless of harm.

Demonstrate effective mentoring capabilities, uphold loyalty to absent colleagues, and consistently apply the AIDET and 5 P's principles.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
Possession of a valid RN license in Tennessee or a compact state license with the intention to obtain a Tennessee RN license.

Required Skills
Current BLS certification or completion within 90 days of hire.
AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course certification at the time of hire or within 30 days.
S.T.A.B.L.E. certification current or obtained within 6 months of hire.
ACLS certification current or obtained within 90 days of hire.
NRP certification current or obtained within 90 days of hire.
