Position Overview

The Registered Nurse in the Obstetrics Department is responsible for delivering both direct and indirect patient care. This role involves utilizing the nursing process to devise and execute care plans for patients, which includes educating patients and their families as well as planning for ongoing care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering nursing care tailored to the specific conditions and requirements of patients.
  • Collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Establishing, reviewing, and updating patient care plans as necessary.
  • Administering medications and treatments in accordance with the Registered Nurse's scope of practice.
  • Documenting patient care activities, including assessments and ongoing treatment notes, in the patients' medical records.
  • Utilizing various computer systems effectively.
  • Operating medical equipment essential for patient care.
  • Providing education to patients and families regarding treatment plans, diagnoses, medications, discharge procedures, and self-care strategies.
  • Ensuring patient care adheres to nursing standards, promoting optimal outcomes while minimizing risks and fostering health and recovery.

Professional Expectations

The Registered Nurse is expected to actively engage in safety protocols and participate in various safety initiatives, including reporting any unexpected patient events, regardless of harm.

Qualifications

Education:
Must hold a valid RN license in Tennessee or a compact state license with plans to obtain a Tennessee RN license.

Required Certifications:
BLS certification must be current or obtained within a specified timeframe after hire.
AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course must be completed at the time of hire or within a specified timeframe.
S.T.A.B.L.E. certification must be current or obtained within a specified timeframe after hire.
ACLS and NRP certifications must be current or obtained within a specified timeframe after hire.
