Position Overview
The Registered Nurse in the Obstetrics Department is responsible for delivering both direct and indirect patient care. This role involves utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, and implement care for patients, alongside providing education to patients and their families, and facilitating a seamless continuum of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering nursing care tailored to the individual needs and conditions of patients.
- Collaborating with physicians and healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Establishing, reviewing, and modifying patient care plans as necessary.
- Administering medications and treatments within the Registered Nurse's scope of practice.
- Documenting patient care activities, including assessments and ongoing treatment notes in the medical record.
- Utilizing various computer systems effectively.
- Operating medical equipment pertinent to patient care.
- Educating patients and families on treatment plans, diagnoses, medications, discharge procedures, and self-care strategies.
- Providing care that adheres to nursing standards, promotes positive outcomes, and prioritizes patient safety and healing.
- Demonstrating the ability to follow established performance standards.
Qualifications
Education
Must hold an active RN license in Tennessee or a compact state license with plans to obtain a Tennessee RN license.
Required Certifications
BLS certification must be current or obtained within 90 days of hire.
AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course must be completed at hire or within 30 days.
S.T.A.B.L.E. certification must be current or obtained within 6 months of hire.
ACLS and NRP certifications must be current or obtained within 90 days of hire.
Organizational Expectations
Engagement in safety protocols and practices is essential, including participation in safety behavior tools and reporting of any unexpected patient events.
