Available Shifts: 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.

Work Schedule: Includes weekends and holidays

Overview:
Responsible for monitoring designated areas of the hospital premises to ensure a secure and orderly environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Enforces hospital regulations and applicable state laws while upholding the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of Akron Children's Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct regular patrols of the facility and surrounding areas, maintaining a visible presence and remaining vigilant for safety and security risks.
2. Respond promptly to alarms and requests for assistance from the Department of Public Safety.
3. Understand and apply departmental policies and procedures, adapting as necessary for effective outcomes.
4. Manage crowd control during events to ensure a safe atmosphere.
5. Enforce parking regulations, assist with vehicle issues, and provide escorts as needed.
6. Communicate effectively through various channels including radio, email, and verbal interactions.
7. Engage with patients and visitors respectfully, employing de-escalation techniques when necessary.
8. Utilize a Record Management System to accurately document incidents.
9. Offer first aid and alert medical personnel as required.
10. Complete training with a Field Training Officer (FTO).
11. Respond to emergencies and critical incidents.
12. Assist law enforcement in detaining suspects when necessary.
13. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory or command staff.

Qualifications:
1. Must be at least 21 years old at the time of hire.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
3. An Associate's Degree in a related field is preferred.
4. Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
5. Completion of the OPOTA Private Security Academy and OPOTA 20-hour firearms certification is required within 90 days of hire.
6. Must meet and maintain the department's firearms qualification standards throughout employment.
7. Successful completion of a thorough background check is mandatory.
8. Psychological fitness must be evaluated by a designated psychologist.
