Armed Security Specialist

Position Overview:

The Armed Security Specialist will patrol designated areas to maintain a secure and orderly environment. This role involves enforcing hospital policies and applicable laws while upholding the values and customer service standards of Akron Children's Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct regular patrols of the campus and surrounding areas, remaining vigilant for safety hazards and suspicious activities.
  2. Respond promptly to alarms and requests for security services.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of departmental policies and adapt as necessary for effective outcomes.
  4. Manage crowd control during events to ensure safety and peace.
  5. Enforce parking regulations and assist visitors with vehicle-related issues.
  6. Communicate effectively using various methods, including radio and verbal communication.
  7. Engage with patients and visitors respectfully, utilizing de-escalation techniques when necessary.
  8. Document incidents accurately using the Record Management System.
  9. Provide first aid and alert medical personnel as needed.
  10. Complete training with a Field Training Officer successfully.
  11. Assist law enforcement when required.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 21 years old at the time of hire.
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate's Degree in a related field is preferred.
  3. Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation is necessary.
  4. Completion of the OPOTA Private Security Academy and firearms certification is required within the first 90 days of employment.
  5. Must meet and maintain the department's firearms qualification standards.
  6. Undergo a thorough background investigation and psychological evaluation.
