Position Summary

The Extrusion Machine Operator is responsible for the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of extrusion machinery that transforms polypropylene pellets into log form. A comprehensive understanding of both product construction and machine functionality is essential to optimize production yields and equipment efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations, including maintaining cleanliness and order.
  • Engage in EHS meetings, investigations, and audits.
  • Communicate safety concerns proactively.
  • Set up and oversee machine operations following standard operating procedures.
  • Familiarize yourself with departmental safety, quality, and regulatory standards, as well as production objectives; actively contribute to achieving these targets.
  • Inspect raw materials and finished products for visual defects and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Conduct checks to ensure compliance with product specifications, maintaining accurate logs or digital records for quality traceability.
  • Manage material disposition for all work-in-process items as assigned.
  • Perform advanced adjustments to machinery to meet construction specifications.
  • Temporarily halt machine operations to rectify any operational issues.
  • Minimize the production of non-compliant products through swift action and effective troubleshooting.
  • Accurately measure work in process and finished goods.
  • Communicate technical issues promptly to relevant personnel.
  • Assist in training new operators.
  • Support routine preventive maintenance and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Complete all necessary setups, adjustments, startups, and shutdowns of equipment.
  • Maintain precise records and clarify any discrepancies when required.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by supervisors or team leads.
Qualifications:
  • At least 6 months of experience as a machine operator, maintenance technician, or equivalent military experience -OR- an Associate's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Willingness to work a rotating 12-hour schedule, including weekends as needed.
  • Availability for overtime as required.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as mandated.
  • Preferred qualifications include:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience with computer applications, particularly basic functions in Excel.
  • Strong mathematical skills for calculating flow rates and measurements.
  • Experience in developing work instructions and operating procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of SAP for navigating specifications and ensuring material accuracy.
  • Mechanical aptitude and quality inspection experience.
  • Detail-oriented with strong communication skills.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Prior experience in setting up, troubleshooting, and operating automated machinery.
  • Knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) safety protocols.
