Mechanical Engineer Position

Position Overview:

Facebook is in search of a versatile Mechanical Engineer to become a vital part of our innovative team. This position focuses on mechanical design, engaging in conceptualization, CAD modeling, and prototyping. The selected candidate will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team dedicated to hardware prototyping for augmented and virtual reality products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design components and assemblies for products that incorporate intricate mechanical, electrical, and optical systems.
  • Create 3D CAD models and 2D schematics for parts and assemblies utilizing CAD software (preferably NX).
  • Determine tolerances for components and conduct tolerance stack analysis.
  • Execute Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) evaluations to ensure designs meet performance and reliability standards.
  • Assemble devices internally for low to medium production runs, integrating mechanical, electrical, and optical elements.
  • Design, fabricate, and construct fixtures and tooling for experimental setups and prototype assembly/testing.
  • Maintain documentation and manage inventory of prototype components.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in product design, specifically in consumer electronics, medical devices, or systems with complex mechanical, electrical, and/or optical components.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, with a preference for NX or Solidworks.
  • Experience in designing plastic and metal components (including machining, sheet metal, 3D printing, and injection molding).
  • Familiarity with statistical tolerance analysis methods and functional dimensioning.
  • Understanding of material properties, including plastics, metals, adhesives, and glass.
  • Practical experience in mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly, with a preference for optical and ESD component handling.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in consumer electronics product development.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical or opto-mechanical products is advantageous.
  • Background in designing packaging for camera modules.

Educational Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
