About the Role

The Development Scientist II for Danaher's Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for participating in the generation of data to support the development and commercialization of Hematology and Urinalysis diagnostic instrumentation.

This position is part of the R&D Shared Services located in Miami, FL and will be an onsite role. As a key member of the Hematology/Urinalysis Verification and Validation team, you will report to the R&D Manager, V&V responsible for managing verification and validation teams and is accountable for technical project direction, project planning and decisions within their area of responsibility and for setting project goals and milestones within the team in line with the corporation's objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on a number of high-priority projects and gain insights from others.
  • Become part of a team responsible for the generation of data for the development of next-generation Hematology and Urinalysis diagnostic instrumentation.
  • Responsible for hands-on execution of peripheral blood smear analysis and cell identification of cell types in blood, urine, and body fluid samples.
  • Design and execute experiments, analyze results, and present conclusions to the wider R&D organization.
  • Communicate project status and experimental data with cross-functional teams, at all levels, and across different cultures via verbal and written communication.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a BS or BA degree in Life Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or medical-related sciences) and 2 years of clinical laboratory experience.
  • Training in Medical Laboratory Sciences, or other related clinical experience.
  • Possesses excellent automated and conventional microscopy skills with experience in cell and particle identification found in blood, urine, and body fluids. Conventional microscopy experience preferred.
  • Possesses excellent bench skills with attention to detail and high standards for data integrity and quality.
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practices and scientific methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of basic statistical methods, including proficiency in the use of Excel for data analysis and presentation.
  • Proven experience in R&D, verification, and/or validation.
