The Department of Ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is currently seeking a full time Scientist to work in the McKnight Vision Research Center.
The Scientist (fifth level of research position) supports research activities at the University and may work under the direction of a principal investigator or program director.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Oversees research employees, students, and other relevant staff.
- Authors scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent applications.
- Assists in the development of training materials for research staff.
- Plans experiments and records and analyzes findings.
- Prepares research proposals and funding applications.
- Ensures that all activities are in compliance with applicable quality and regulatory standards.
- Maintains current knowledge of relevant scientific and technical developments.
- Presents ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Ph.
D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree in relevant field
Experience:
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
- Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
