About the Department:

The Facilities Management team provides essential services and support to the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our mission is to ensure that facilities are effectively maintained to support the operational goals of the organization. The Facilities Systems Engineer will operate within a state-of-the-art laboratory environment dedicated to research and collaboration in the field of infectious diseases.

About the Position:

This role involves overseeing the management of various control systems for a continuously operating facility, including Building Automation Systems, access control systems, and video surveillance systems. The position requires proficiency in managing primary and secondary servers, databases, controllers, sensors, backups, and enterprise software solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Building Automation Systems Administrator

  • Administer and maintain Building Automation systems, including applications, databases, and server infrastructure;
  • Oversee the lifecycle management of all applications and servers within the Building Automation Systems;
  • Coordinate a comprehensive schedule for system updates and maintenance while ensuring uninterrupted service;
  • Provide on-site assistance and training as required;
  • Collaborate in the design and engineering of control system hardware and software according to project specifications;
  • Troubleshoot complex network and database issues, providing emergency repair solutions as necessary;
  • Monitor and guide the repair and configuration of BAS components by internal and external personnel.

Access Control Systems Administrator

  • Manage the security protocols of the Building Access Control System, ensuring robust protection of all applications and databases;
  • Maintain the integrity of the Building Access Control System, including server and database management;
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies and regulations;
  • Establish and enforce access control measures for users;
  • Conduct regular audits and monitoring of the access control environment;
  • Manage user access requests efficiently;
  • Provide timely reporting for data inquiries.

Select Agent System Administrator

  • Oversee the Select Agent System, ensuring the security and functionality of all related applications and databases;
  • Maintain the Select Agent Tracking System, including server and database integrity;
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and security measures;
  • Manage user access and provide necessary training;
  • Generate reports as needed for data requests.

Video Monitoring and IT Support

  • Administer the security of Building Automation Systems across multiple installations;
  • Provide IT support for video monitoring systems and collaborate with Facilities staff;
  • Ensure compliance with IT policies;
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate with IT support as needed;
  • Utilize the Facilities IT Ticket System to track and resolve issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Experience in managing Building Automation or enterprise-level systems;
  • Knowledge of energy management, building systems, and DDC control systems;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft server operating systems and database management;
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with building automation software;
  • Knowledge of Siemens Desigo or Apogee systems;
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Azure Administrator, or equivalent.
