This role is associated with VSL Electrical, Signing, Lighting, a division of The Lane Construction Corporation. VSL is recognized as a specialized contractor offering comprehensive electrical, signing, and lighting systems solutions tailored for complex and critical infrastructure projects.

The Mechanical Systems Engineer will collaborate closely with the Mechanical Supervisor and/or Equipment Manager to address equipment issues, oversee performance metrics, and deliver insights on equipment usage, maintenance, and operational costs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the mechanical supervisor, mechanics, electricians, and technicians in diagnosing equipment issues to enhance safety, reduce downtime, boost operational efficiency, and optimize production levels.
  • Ensure equipment availability and proper functionality.
  • Coordinate and schedule preventative maintenance, inspections, and licensing for equipment.
  • Analyze predictive maintenance indicators such as oil sample reports, thermal imaging data, and vibration analysis.
  • Monitor and report on equipment utilization metrics.
  • Track and report fuel consumption data.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment.
  • Assist in documenting machine repairs and reviewing historical maintenance records.
  • Manage electronic records of equipment history.
  • Oversee equipment telematics and fleet maintenance software.
  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure timely availability of parts and services.
  • Work with Procurement and Accounts Payable to guarantee accurate processing and categorization of requisitions and invoices.
  • Supervise shifts as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Previous experience in managing repairs and maintenance of plants, fleets, and/or heavy equipment is highly preferred.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including extended shifts, weekends, or night shifts as necessary.
  • Aptitude for learning and utilizing GPS tracking systems.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Enterprise ERP systems.
