About the Department:

The Facilities Management division is dedicated to providing essential services and infrastructure support to the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Facilities Systems Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the operations of a state-of-the-art facility that supports critical research and development initiatives.

About the Position:

This role involves managing a range of control systems for a facility that operates continuously throughout the year. Responsibilities include overseeing Building Automation Systems, access control systems, and supporting video surveillance systems. The position requires proficiency in managing primary and secondary servers, databases, controllers, sensors, backups, and enterprise software solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Building Automation Systems Management

  • Administer and maintain Building Automation systems, including applications, databases, and server infrastructure;
  • Oversee the lifecycle management of all components of the Building Automation Systems;
  • Schedule and implement system patches and upgrades while ensuring minimal disruption to services;
  • Provide on-site assistance and training as required;
  • Collaborate in the design and engineering of control system hardware and software based on project specifications;
  • Troubleshoot complex issues related to networks, databases, and systems, providing emergency repair solutions when necessary;
  • Monitor and guide the repair and configuration of BAS components by internal and external personnel.

Access Control Systems Management

  • Ensure the security and integrity of the Building Access Control System;
  • Maintain all system components, including servers, operating systems, databases, and applications;
  • Manage user access and ensure compliance with relevant policies;
  • Establish monitoring and auditing protocols for the Access Control System;
  • Handle access requests efficiently and provide timely reporting for data inquiries.

Select Agent System Oversight

  • Manage the Select Agent System, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements;
  • Maintain system components, including servers, databases, and applications;
  • Provide primary user support and training for system users;
  • Ensure a secure environment for all system components.

IT Support and Video Monitoring

  • Provide IT support for the Building Automation Systems and coordinate with relevant departments;
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide assistance to Facilities IT staff;
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Experience in managing Building Automation or enterprise-level systems;
  • Knowledge of energy management, utilities, and building systems;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft server operating systems and database management;
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with building automation software;
  • Knowledge of Siemens Desigo or Apogee systems;
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Azure Administrator, or similar.
