Position Overview


Electra Aero is on the lookout for a Lead Flight Control Systems Engineer to contribute to the advancement of our Fly-by-Wire (FBW) flight control system for our technical demonstrator hybrid electric eSTOL aircraft and other innovative projects.

This role presents a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in a state-of-the-art development initiative. The position is located in Manassas, Virginia.

Key Responsibilities


Provide engineering expertise across all facets of the FBW flight control system development, encompassing system architecture, hardware, software, and control algorithm formulation.

Establish simulation models and testing environments for the validation of control algorithms.

Offer specialized knowledge, conduct technical evaluations, provide design direction, and mentor junior engineers.

Formulate subsystem and component specifications that align with safety, performance, and organizational goals.

Oversee the functional and physical interactions between the flight control system and the aircraft.

Lead verification processes, including analysis and testing, for the flight control system.

Engage with clients, suppliers, partners, and internal teams to ensure alignment with program objectives.

Facilitate communication regarding the flight control system's design, requirements, and performance among the design team, management, clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

Qualifications


A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related STEM field is required, along with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

Essential Skills


Proven experience in the development of aircraft control systems and integrated flight hardware.

A strong commitment to work and the ability to independently manage the responsibilities outlined above.

Excellent organizational and communication capabilities.

Proficiency in MATLAB / Simulink.

Preferred Qualifications


An advanced degree is preferred.

Experience in the development of FBW aircraft systems, from initial design through to production.

Familiarity with setting up testing and simulation environments (software-in-loop, hardware-in-loop) for flight control avionics.

Experience in developing safety-critical systems.

Background in prototype development programs.

Demonstrated understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), certification processes, and relevant industry standards.

US Person (Citizen or Green Card) preferred.

Licensed Pilot preferred.

Working Conditions


Work is generally conducted in a warehouse/aviation and office setting, necessitating adherence to safety protocols. May require lifting up to 50 lbs.

Travel Requirements


Less than 25% travel may be necessary.

Salary Range


Electra Aero's salary range for this position is: $81,250.00 – 181,250.00. This range reflects the overall minimum and maximum for the company across all locations and projects and does not necessarily indicate the budgeted amount for this position.

Individual compensation is determined by various factors, including project budgets, job-related skills, experience, relevant education and/or training, role, level, location, and project.
