Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Benefits Specialist to join our team in the Community Service Office in South Bend. As a Public Benefits Specialist, you will play a critical role in helping individuals and families access public assistance services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process applications for public assistance services, including financial, medical, and food assistance programs.
  • Conduct eligibility determinations and gather and review data, applications, and other documents to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements.
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients, explaining program requirements, application procedures, and verification needs.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced office environment, prioritizing multiple tasks and managing interruptions.
  • Learn and utilize various computer programs to process applications and case actions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a customer service role or financial eligibility determination.
  • At least one year of equivalent out-of-state experience conducting financial eligibility determinations for public assistance programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations and communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software and systems.
