Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Coach/Peer Recovery Specialist to join our team at Children's National Hospital. As a key member of our Emergency Department team, you will provide non-clinical services to aid patients in establishing recovery from high-risk dependent alcohol and drug use problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide peer support and motivation to encourage patients seeking treatment for alcohol or drug dependency and addiction issues.
  • Assist in completing referrals to treatment services and developing service plans to promote successful linkage to treatment services.
  • Work collaboratively with the Emergency Medicine Advocacy Coordinator and clinical staff to identify community support services.
  • Act as a resource to other clinical team members on recovery support.
  • Consult with research staff, advocacy coordinator, nursing staff, and social work as requested.
Requirements
  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum Work Experience: 2 years of professional experience in a substance use disorder setting providing peer support/navigation
  • Required Skills/Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to relate to patients and health professionals, and ability to develop professional working relationships with partner agencies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related or unrelated field
  • Certified Peer Specialist through the DC Department of Behavioral Health; and/or a Recovery Coach
