Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for independently planning and delivering professional nursing care tailored to a specific patient demographic, adhering to established medical and nursing care protocols.

This role involves managing and coordinating care through telecommunication technologies within the Ambulatory Care Nursing framework.

The nurse provides comprehensive nursing services to patients and their families, aligning with the scope of practice as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

In this capacity, the Registered Nurse will lead and direct other team members while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure care is appropriate for various age groups and developmental stages, in accordance with nursing standards.


Education and Experience:
Candidates must possess a degree from an accredited School of Nursing and have a minimum of two years of experience in acute care settings. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred, with a strong emphasis on recent acute care experience. Previous exposure to Telephone Triage and familiarity with Health Insurance and Managed Care concepts is advantageous.

Licensure and Certification:

A current Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina is mandatory, along with Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. Additional licensure in other states may be required based on legal or contractual obligations.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certifications may be necessary within a specified timeframe in certain areas.


Key Responsibilities:
1.

Deliver patient-centered care, serving as a partner and advisor to assist patients and families in effectively managing their healthcare, while respecting their cultural values, individual needs, health objectives, and treatment preferences.

2.

Utilize critical thinking and clinical judgment to facilitate timely care and treatment, particularly for patients presenting complex or potentially life-threatening conditions, assessed through various telecommunication methods.

3.

Ensure proper scheduling and follow-up on diagnostic test results for healthcare providers, employing active listening skills and evidence-based practices to explain results and medications to patients.

4.

Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics in fulfilling professional obligations and caring for patients.

5.

Engage in ongoing professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, and pursuing educational opportunities. Demonstrate professionalism through active participation in a collaborative practice model.

6.

Prioritize patient safety and quality of care by implementing appropriate nursing interventions, including identifying patient needs, conducting health education, advocating for patients, coordinating services, and evaluating outcomes.

7.

Maintain knowledge of care teams to ensure effective coordination of patient care, self-management, and communication skills.

8.

Adapt communication styles to meet the diverse needs of patients from various backgrounds.

9.

Exhibit strong assessment, critical thinking, and customer service skills.

10.

Perform additional duties as required in relation to the role.


Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to assess the nursing needs of both acute and chronically ill patients through technological means, seek resources independently, and collaborate effectively. Strong communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams are essential, along with the ability to educate patients in line with nursing care plans. Proficiency in computer usage and documentation is required.

Work Environment:
The role is typically situated within a clinical setting.

Physical Requirements:

The position may involve various physical activities, including standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, and dexterity in hands and fingers. Lifting and carrying may be required, with a maximum weight of up to 100 lbs.
