Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 7:40am – 4:00pm

Qualifications and Skills

A strong commitment to the mission of Harlem Children's Zone A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience are required 2 – 5 years of teaching experience in an urban educational environment is preferred New York State certification for grades 7-12 in History/Social Studies is preferred but not mandatory Excellent verbal and written communication abilities

Teacher salaries are determined based on years of experience, educational qualifications, and certification status.

Furthermore, we equip our educators with the necessary tools for success. You will receive a personal laptop, smartboards, and tablets; bi-weekly professional development sessions; and the support of a dedicated team of academic coaches, deans, guidance counselors, and social workers committed to ensuring the success of all our scholars.

Responsibilities

Design, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that promote active learning Ensure lessons are rigorous, clear, measurable, and aligned with Common Core State Standards Develop and utilize various assessments (e.g., exams, written assignments, and public performances) to regularly measure student progress toward the school's content and skill standards Maintain an organized classroom environment conducive to learning Ensure that students achieve grade-level standards Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students Incorporate direct instruction, discussions, projects, and collaborative work to engage students and foster a lasting desire to learn Collaborate with teaching assistants and/or teaching fellows to create an effective classroom environment and address individual student needs Adhere to the school's policies and procedures for student conduct and discipline, and maintain a disruption-free classroom Establish clear evaluation criteria and communicate them to students prior to assignments Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues Participate in grade-level and school-wide activities Opportunity to work on Saturdays during test preparation season – additional compensation available
