OVERALL DESCRIPTION

NOTICE: The selected finalist for this role will undergo an updated criminal background check in accordance with SEPTA Policy # E20, which mandates that all incumbent employees without a recent criminal background check are subject to a renewed investigation to assess their suitability for employment, particularly in cases of promotion or transfer.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Accountable for diagnosing intricate mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues; involved in the disassembly, repair, replacement, reassembly, and adjustment of diesel or gasoline engines, clutches, transmissions, refrigeration units, and various automotive equipment, while working under the general supervision of the foreperson.
  • Evaluates mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical problems of a complex nature; determines the general extent of repairs or replacements necessary. Tests, diagnoses, troubleshoots, repairs, and adjusts all types of air conditioning systems and units, which encompass mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration components and piping.
  • Inspects, adjusts, repairs, replaces, and/or cleans evaporator core filters, compressors, expansion valves, and all other electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical controls, relays, regulators, alternators, valves, switches, wiring, and other units.
  • Performs duties of and oversees the activities of employees in lower classifications as needed.
ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must successfully complete written qualification tests and performance assessments.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible to obtain a CDL (SEPTA will provide CDL training).
  • Must have tools relevant to the occupation.
  • Must be available to work varied shifts.
  • Graduate from an accredited technical school in the automotive repair field with required certification.
  • In lieu of recent certification from an accredited technical school in a related field, one year of work experience in the repair of gas or diesel engines is an acceptable equivalent.
  • Must have experience as an automotive mechanic, specifically in repairing engines, transmissions, etc.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

**Starting Pay Rate: $32.99/hour - After 12 Months: $36.66, based on applicable contract.**
