Job Description

Job Summary:

TÜV SÜD America is seeking a highly skilled Product Safety Engineer to join our team. As a Product Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for inspecting, testing, and photographing products to ensure conformity with international and national regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform safety testing and inspections in accordance with international safety standards and test procedures.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation for customer products to ensure compliance with relevant standards.
  • Generate revenue by billing engineering time to TÜV SÜD America customers for testing, certification, and other services.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of test documentation and reports.
  • Maintain knowledge of proper operational procedures for test equipment and ensure proper calibration and functioning.
  • Follow standard lab operating procedures, including test documentation, equipment storage, and test area maintenance.
  • Participate in customer meetings to ensure understanding of test plans and sample configurations.
  • Review and provide feedback on test reports to improve quality and accuracy.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest design theory, product standards, test procedures, and technology through internal training, external seminars, and technical articles.
  • Ensure test areas and equipment are in good condition and ready for testing.
  • Collaborate with the regional product safety team to prepare and host audits.
  • Promote a positive work environment through improved communication, lab organization, and positive reinforcement.
  • Provide engineering expertise to clients to ensure product compliance with international safety requirements.
  • Work with the Technical Support team to provide time estimates for testing and other technical support for safety projects.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, including providing technical feedback, answering questions, and relaying information.

Requirements:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years of product safety experience.
  • Previous experience with consumer product safety standards, medical standards, and ISO 17025, CRM, and SAP platforms.
  • Excellent communication, verbal, written, and listening skills.

Working Environment:

The physical demands of this job require occasional walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and the ability to sit, talk, or hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Close vision is required. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The work environment is moderate, with some domestic and international travel required.
