Job Overview:

The CPI Investigative Supervisor I is responsible for overseeing complex consultative services and providing technical guidance within the Child Protective Investigations (CPI) Division.

This role includes managing a team of administrative personnel and caseworkers tasked with conducting thorough investigations and Alternative Response (AR) cases.

The Supervisor plays a critical role in offering case consultations and monitoring case statuses by leveraging data analytics to identify trends and potential risks related to child safety.

Key responsibilities include selecting, hiring, and developing staff through performance evaluations, individual meetings, case reviews, and field assessments to ensure adherence to policies and enhance productivity.

This position also involves providing expert guidance and support to unit staff and stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery and optimal outcomes for families.

The Supervisor is entrusted with making significant decisions that impact child protection efforts.

Regular consultations with program directors and external stakeholders are essential for discussing complex cases and prioritizing urgent reports.

This fast-paced role requires daily evaluations and decision-making regarding child safety issues, with on-call duties that may include weekends and holidays.

Compliance with the Child Protective Services Handbook and relevant state regulations is mandatory.

Interactions with clients, legal representatives, and various professionals involved in investigations are routine.

Works under limited supervision.

Core Responsibilities:

Regular attendance and adherence to agency policies are expected while performing additional assigned duties.

The Supervisor oversees daily case actions related to safety and risk management.

Ensures timely engagement with all cases and that staff continuously assess child safety throughout investigations by reviewing documentation for accuracy.

Evaluates unit performance through case reviews and ensures timely safety assessments and referrals to community resources to mitigate risks to children.

Reviews case closures in accordance with departmental guidelines and collaborates with leadership on unresolved risk factors. (40%)
Implements program policies, manages administrative tasks, and leads unit meetings.

Daily reviews of abuse/neglect intakes are conducted to assess child safety and ensure timely family contact.

Oversees time and leave entries and manages staff overtime in compliance with regulations.

Provides training and conducts monthly staff meetings to communicate policy updates, address productivity trends, and foster team cohesion.

Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and developing staff. Conducts field assessments, performance reviews, and training sessions.

Evaluates unit performance through various reports and observations to ensure compliance with established policies.

Focuses on developing competent staff capable of engaging and supporting families to promote child safety and well-being.

Provides ongoing guidance on policies and professional development. (20%)

Consults with unit staff to interpret program policies for various stakeholders and develops effective working relationships to enhance unit performance.

Represents the program at various meetings and events. (10%)
Performs additional duties as necessary to maintain unit operations. (5%)

Required Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws governing the INV/AR program.
Specialized understanding of INV/AR practices and child welfare.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to build and maintain productive relationships internally and externally.
Proficient in using computer systems and software.
Capable of preparing clear and concise reports.
Skilled in gathering and analyzing data.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Quick comprehension of new information.
Capable of planning, directing, and supervising others.
Ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
Effectively represents Child Protective Investigations with key stakeholders.
