Position Summary:
The Cost Accountant will be integral to our financial management, focusing on cost analysis, inventory oversight, and financial reporting. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of cost accounting principles and a proven track record in inventory management, coupled with the ability to interpret complex data for strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional analytical capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, and the capacity to collaborate effectively across various departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Analysis:
    • Conduct thorough cost assessments and generate detailed reports on production expenses, inventory levels, and cost of goods sold.
    • Establish and refine standard cost models to ensure precise product costing.
    • Perform regular variance analyses to compare actual costs against standards, providing insights into any discrepancies.
    • Assist in the monthly closing process by managing inventory and cost of goods sold entries.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Oversee inventory accounting processes, ensuring alignment between physical counts and system records.
    • Implement and uphold inventory control measures to guarantee data accuracy.
    • Evaluate periodic cycle counts and annual physical inventories to sustain inventory integrity.
    • Ensure compliance with major contract stipulations regarding manufacturing and logistics.
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to cost accounting and inventory.
    • Support the month-end and year-end closing processes by accurately recording inventory and cost transactions.
    • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Contribute to the development of annual budgets and forecasts, providing in-depth analysis of cost and inventory data.
    • Monitor budget performance, offering variance analysis and recommendations for cost management.
  • Process Optimization:
    • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiency enhancements.
    • Collaborate with operations, supply chain, and production teams to implement best practices in cost management and inventory oversight.
    • Enhance cost accounting systems, procedures, and controls.
  • Compliance and Auditing:
    • Ensure adherence to internal policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations related to cost and inventory accounting.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
    • Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience:
    • 5-7 years of experience in cost accounting, ideally within the consumer products sector.
    • Demonstrated expertise in inventory control and management.
    • Strong proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Net Suite) and advanced Excel capabilities.
  • Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of cost accounting principles and inventory management practices.
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Capacity to work independently and lead projects.
    • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
