Position Overview:

The Principal Admitting Worker is a vital role within the Emergency Department Registration team. This position is responsible for a variety of essential functions including pre-admission processes, financial counseling, and insurance management. The incumbent will handle unscheduled admissions, NICU transfers, and additional duties as assigned.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct pre-admission procedures and financial assessments.
  • Manage insurance notifications, verifications, and authorizations.
  • Oversee unscheduled admissions in both acute care and mental health settings.
  • Facilitate NICU transfers and other related tasks.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology.
  • Proficient customer service skills tailored to the healthcare environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Government and Commercial Insurance Plans.
  • Experience with registration and billing software.
  • Background in a hospital or medical office setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Familiarity with Managed Care plans and referral authorization processes.
  • Adept at utilizing payer and government websites for health plan benefit interpretation.
  • Ability to maintain an efficient work pace and foster effective relationships across the health system.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of university and medical center policies and procedures.
  • Experience with software such as Quest, Invision, and EPIC.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Capability to ensure accurate billing and financial procedures for patients.
