Position Overview:

The Principal Admitting Worker is responsible for executing vital functions within the Emergency Department Registration. This includes tasks such as pre-admission processes, financial counseling, and managing insurance notifications and verifications. The role also encompasses handling unscheduled admissions in both acute care and mental health scenarios, as well as NICU transfers and other assigned responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct pre-admission activities and provide financial guidance to patients.
  • Manage insurance notifications, verification, and authorization processes.
  • Oversee unscheduled admissions, including acute care and mental health cases.
  • Facilitate NICU transfers and perform additional duties as required.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge necessary for effective job performance.
  • General understanding of medical terminology.
  • Strong customer service abilities tailored to the healthcare environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Government and Commercial Insurance Plans.
  • Experience with registration and billing software.
  • Background in a hospital or medical office setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
  • Understanding of Managed Care plans and referral authorization processes.
  • Ability to navigate payer and government websites for health plan benefit interpretation.
  • Capacity to maintain an appropriate work pace and establish effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with university and medical center policies and procedures.
  • Experience with software such as Quest, Invision, and EPIC.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to ensure accurate billing and financial procedures for patients.
