Intuit Inc. is seeking a Principal Research Scientist to be part of the AI/Tech Futures team.

This team operates in an intrapreneurial capacity, focusing on the development and incubation of innovative technologies, user experiences, and products that can significantly impact both businesses and consumers. The mission of the AI Research division is to conduct pioneering research in artificial intelligence that directly affects Intuit's financial technology offerings and establishes the company as a leader in AI, with the vision of enhancing global prosperity.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of advancing artificial intelligence fundamentals. We are looking for candidates who possess expertise in generative AI, deep learning principles, and optimization, with a strong interest in areas such as neuro-symbolic AI, personalization, recommendation systems, large language models, and uncertainty quantification. You will collaborate with a talented team of domain experts, data scientists, and machine learning engineers to define our strategic direction and develop advanced capabilities that meet our customers' current and future needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership in Neuro-Symbolic AI, Multimodal and Large Language Models, Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, and Machine Learning.
  • Drive innovation in AI-driven financial applications through collaboration and creativity.
  • Engage with the academic and broader research community via publications, presentations, and partnerships.
  • Work towards ambitious long-term research objectives aligned with Intuit's product strategy, while identifying key intermediate milestones.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of designers, program managers, researchers, and legal experts to develop new capabilities for existing and future products.
  • Mentor junior researchers and interns, guiding them in goal setting and technical direction to achieve successful outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field with a focus on AI, ML, or Data Science, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Over 7 years of relevant experience following the completion of a PhD.
  • Proven experience leading a research or applied research team.
  • A strong publication record, ideally with first-author papers in prestigious AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, KDD, ACL, AAAI).
  • More than 10 years of experience in conducting theoretical or applied research, with a demonstrated ability to define and lead research projects.
  • Experience in sharing new technical concepts with the scientific community through open-source projects, publications, and presentations.
  • Proficiency in developing and debugging using Python with frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Deep technical knowledge in machine learning, with hands-on experience in deep NLP architectures, neuro-symbolic AI, or robust and explainable AI.
  • A keen interest in the future of finance, payments, and the transformative potential of these technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, product technologists, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities to influence teams and promote research solutions across the organization.
