OVERVIEW

Creating joy begins with you. The primary role of the Retail Operations Leader is to enhance sales performance while serving as a motivating figure and mentor for the team. This individual fosters development and inspiration within the team, ensuring alignment with JOANN's overarching mission and vision. The Retail Operations Leader empowers their staff and cultivates a welcoming atmosphere for both customers and team members. Through effective leadership, the Retail Operations Leader will meet financial objectives and guarantee that every customer discovers their Happy Place at JOANN.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

CUSTOMER CONNECTION

  • Builds enduring customer relationships by understanding and anticipating their needs.
  • Engages with the local community and represents the JOANN brand positively.
  • Encourages, mentors, and motivates the team to be exemplary brand representatives.
  • Stays informed about products and maintains curiosity about new merchandise and trends.

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

  • Communicates new strategies, leadership updates, and promotional activities.
  • Ensures flawless implementation of operational guidelines and protocols.
  • Guides and inspires the team to exceed sales expectations through exceptional customer service.
  • Develops strategic initiatives and equips the team with the necessary tools to meet performance indicators.
  • Responsible for receiving and organizing freight according to company standards.
  • Oversees the Buy Online Pick Up in Store (BOPIS) process, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Ensures accurate implementation of Planogram (POG) displays within the store.

STRATEGIC THINKING

  • Remains updated on industry trends and seeks innovative ways to stay competitive.
  • Adapts to changes and shifts priorities as necessary.
  • Analyzes sales reports to identify trends and develop strategies to achieve both personal and store objectives.
  • Utilizes the FAST model to consistently meet sales targets and company goals.

TEAM DEVELOPMENT

  • Mentors and inspires team members to improve overall store performance.
  • Promotes a culture of continuous learning and teamwork within the store.
  • Identifies and nurtures in-store talent through succession planning and performance management.
  • Networks, recruits, and trains team members using provided onboarding resources.
  • Exhibits a strong customer service orientation.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and proficient communication abilities.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of retail financials and manages profit and loss effectively.
  • Displays a natural curiosity and eagerness to learn and grow.
  • Acts as a self-starter, maintaining urgency to achieve results.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during shifts.
  • Regularly walk throughout the store during shifts.
  • Read and interpret written instructions and reports on paper and screens.
  • Communicate verbally with customers and team members consistently.
  • Input data using a computer keyboard and handheld devices.
  • Utilize two-way radios for communication.
  • Push and pull merchandise using appropriate equipment.
  • Lift and arrange items on shelves and racks.
  • Bend and reach as necessary.
  • Climb ladders safely.
  • Lift up to 49 pounds individually and up to 97 pounds with assistance.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

Oversees all personnel and operations within a multi-unit retail environment, including hiring and training responsibilities.

AVAILABILITY

Must be flexible to work various shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Minimum Experience: 3-5 years of leadership experience in retail.

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Proficient in managing store budgets and labor resources.
  • Capable of maintaining confidentiality in a retail setting.
  • Skilled in recruiting and training new employees.

  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a customer-first approach.
  • Proficient in inventory management and POS software.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
