Core Duties as a KIPP New Orleans Educator:

Achievement / Instructional Excellence
  • Deliver evidence-based specialized instruction tailored to meet the specific goals outlined in each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • Ensure that appropriate accommodations and modifications are implemented as specified in students' IEPs.
  • Utilize data to guide instructional choices, assess student progress, and identify the need for additional support or adjustments in teaching methods.
  • Provide consistent feedback to students regarding their performance and tailor plans to address individual learning needs.
Hope / Cultivating a Positive Classroom Environment
  • Establish a constructive learning atmosphere by creating classroom rules, systems, and procedures.
  • Communicate a strong belief in the potential of all students to learn and thrive in the classroom.
  • Consistently apply school-wide management policies.
  • Maintain high expectations for student behavior at all times.
  • Offer guidance to classroom teachers on adaptations, instructional modifications, assistive technology, behavioral plans, and other interventions to support students with disabilities.

  • Build strong relationships with students, families, educators, staff, and community members.
  • Maintain open communication with families regarding student progress.

Case Management / Special Education Compliance
  • Develop and implement annual IEP plans for students, detailing educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals, and required services.
  • Maintain accurate records for special education students and update them according to reporting timelines.
  • Oversee the completion of special education progress reports and service logs for all related service providers.
  • Collaborate with the school psychologist to conduct student evaluations.
  • Adhere to procedural requirements, including due process timelines.
Qualifications

The following are required for all KIPP New Orleans educators:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Successful completion of State and Federal Criminal Background Check.
  • A personal commitment to our mission and vision, along with a demonstrated dedication to our five core beliefs: Relentlessness, Equity, Achievement, Community, and Hope.
  • Documentation of either 1) receipt of a COVID-19 vaccination or 2) a granted reasonable accommodation from the KNOS Director of Human Resources to be exempted from this policy.
The following are strongly preferred for all KIPP New Orleans educators:
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience in urban, open enrollment schools.
  • A state teaching credential in Special Education.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions
  • Ability to sit and work at a desk/computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to spend the majority of the day standing or moving throughout the classroom, as well as talking, hearing, grasping, reaching, and lifting up to 30 lbs with or without accommodations.
  • Capacity to concentrate in active and noisy environments, such as cafeterias and playgrounds, as well as in moderate settings like classrooms.
  • Ability to perform repetitive wrist/hand/finger movements for computer and office equipment tasks.
  • Ability to manage potential high-stress situations.
