Success Indicators for This Role

This is an exempt position for a duration of 10 months. Algiers Charter's approach to education emphasizes a continuous improvement cycle, focusing on planning, executing, reflecting, and refining practices. Our schools are transitioning to a more intricate conceptual framework that encourages analysis, synthesis, hypothesizing, understanding, and creating connections daily.

Teachers at Algiers Charter engage in the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP), an initiative aimed at attracting, developing, and retaining talented educators. Continuous professional development, coupled with robust support, is essential for achieving optimal student outcomes in a positive work environment. Success is defined by enhanced student performance, a professional demeanor, school-wide achievement of performance goals, and securing the longest charter renewal possible.

Position Responsibilities & Expectations

Professional Learning, Development, and Growth for Educators:

Educators are expected to participate in annual professional development activities, including:
  • New Educator Orientation
  • Faculty and Grade-Level Meetings
  • Job-Embedded Professional Development
  • Approximately 60-90 minutes weekly
  • Focused on student strategies, analysis of student work, and Individual Growth Plan (IGP) Development
  • Attendance at cluster meetings
  • Accountability through observations and evaluations based on the TAP Instructional rubric (three times annually)
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by school leadership
Student Engagement:

Are all students actively involved in the lesson from beginning to end?
  • Nearly all students complete instructional tasks, volunteer responses, and/or ask relevant questions.
  • Students adhere to behavioral expectations and follow directions.
  • Students manage transitions, routines, and procedures efficiently with minimal guidance from the educator.
  • The class maintains a brisk pace, with students engaged in the lesson throughout. Early finishers engage in meaningful learning without disrupting others.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by school leadership.
Essential Content:

Are all students working with content aligned to the appropriate standards for their grade?
  • Develop lesson and unit plans aligned with common core standards that facilitate mastery and meet grade-level expectations.
  • Lessons focus on content that propels students toward grade-level standards or IEP goals.
  • All student activities align with the stated learning objectives and are well-sequenced to promote mastery.
  • All instructional materials, including texts and assessments, are high-quality and appropriately challenging for the grade level.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by school leadership.
Academic Ownership:

Are students responsible for their own learning in the classroom?
  • Most students provide meaningful evidence to support their reasoning.
  • Students engage in a suitable amount of cognitive work during lessons, such as reading, writing, and problem-solving.
  • Students build on each other's ideas and provide constructive feedback.
  • Students consistently strive to complete academic tasks, even when faced with challenges.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by school leadership.
Demonstration of Learning:

Do students show evidence of their learning?
  • Assessments yield data that help the educator evaluate student progress toward learning goals.
  • Students have ample opportunities to express their learning through academic writing and discussions.
  • All students demonstrate understanding of lesson content and progress toward learning objectives.
  • Student work and interactions indicate that most students are on track to meet learning goals.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by school leadership.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field
  • Preferred two years of teaching experience
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate preferred
  • Proven track record of high student achievement as indicated by previous evaluations
  • Commitment to a student-centered, detail-oriented community environment
  • Alignment with the Algiers Charter mission and educational philosophy
  • Openness to professional development and feedback
